Jean works from home in a soft-lit studio decked with guitars – as music is also such an important part of his world.
An immense wooden easel, which Jean designed himself, dominates the studio. Flanked by a fan-like row of paint-brushes on one side and specially designed shelves for his materials on the other, Jean paints portraits and landscapes with aplomb. A stickler for detail, Jean even makes his brushes by hand with bristles from local zebu and also from soft human hair, gleaned from a hairdresser’s clippings.
Coming from an artistic family, he has two brothers who paint regularly but Jean is the only member of his family who lives by his art.
In 1980 he began producing watercolours and nowadays works exclusively in oils. His work is exhibited in Antananarivo, at the Association Rose & Baobab and at the Hotel Vatolahy in Antsirabe.
His work has been shown abroad, notably with Fulgence and Bary Ravalimanda in 1997 in France.
